First Day of 3rd Grade Hair

My princess started 3rd grade this week and she was so excited for her first day of school.  She had the Bottom Braids and Bun hairstyle the day before for church (which we created a video for and will be up soon!  Woohoo!) so we just used the waves from those braids.  You can also get waves by just braiding wet hair the night before or using an electric waver.

We wanted kind of a Bohemian look so we basically just made a short off-centered part on the top and then gathered some hair back into an elastic.
We did leave some hair loose by the ear so that it was not a full half-up hairstyle.
We tied a ribbon over the elastic and just let the rest of the hair fall in waves.   It was very simple but very beautiful.  It did not take very long either which is perfect for those morning that you just need to get out the door!
She had a great first day of school and had many compliments on her hair.

Flashback Friday: Growing Out the Bangs

These pictures were taken just a couple days after my princess turned 4 and she decided that she was getting to old for "little girl bangs".
I remember dreading the time when we would have to grown out these bangs but it really wasn't too bad.
We just rolled them to one side and used bendy clips to secure them into place.  On this particular day we did some low Indian Braids but the rolled bangs worked with any hairstyle.
We also did this style on her first day of preschool and she looked darling!

First Day of School Do

My princess insisted on walking to her first day of school and I knew how hot it was going to be outside so we chose a hairstyle that would be up off of her neck.  We started by dividing the hair into 4 equal parts - 2 on top and two on the bottom.
Then you'll want to pull each of the sections into an elastic and use a Topsy Tail or comb to create a Pull-Through.  (On the bottom half we made Inverted Pull-Throughs.)  Next you'll want to braid each section and secure them with elastics.
Grab the two braids on the left half and join the ends together with another elastic.  Do this with the two on the right side as well.  Now pull the two left ends over to the right side and pull the two right ends through the left ones and over to the left side.
This will create a criss-crossed look on the top and bottom.  (Hopefully that's not too confusing.)  Use bobby pins to secure the elastics to the hair.
Now you can take the ends of the hair that is left over and create Barrel Rolls just inside the joined braids.  Bobby pin those down and well and make sure to use plenty of hair spray to keep the hold.
Add some little clips on each side to hide the elastics and that's it!
